Poggio Ancaiano is a biological farmland with restored houses, located near Orvieto, that has been capital city during the etruscan civilization, and one of the papal residency during the Middle Ages.

It represents an ideal base for anyone wishing to make regular day trips to the artistic and majestic sites of Umbria, Tuscany and Latium, such as Florence, Siena, Viterbo, Todi, Arezzo, Perugia and Rome.

Other less well-known treasures as the many enchanting villages round Bolsena Lake, the private owned island Bisentina (open to visitors) and more Civita, Bomarzo, Pitigliano, the parish towns of Montepulciano, Pienza and Cortona. All these different sites combine to create a fascinating cultural and historical itinerary which includes not only the Etruscan civilization, but also the Middle Age, the Renaissence right up to the Eighteenth century.

Lake Bolsena is one of the few navigable lakes in this region. There are opportunities for water skiing, sailing, wind surfing, fishing and a beach with restaurants and cabanas.

- A sports centre with swimming pool and tennis courts at Ciconia (just 1 km away)

- Thermal natural waters and muds at "terme dei Papi" ("The popes baths") close to Viterbo

- Innumerable lovely walks and trekking or bicycle paths in unspoilt countryside and especially around the intriguing geological phenomena of the "Calanchi valley"

- Many vineyards producing excellent wines, olive groves, large production of honey and jams.

- Nurseries specialised in at least 100 varietis of roses, as well as peoneas and iris.

- A large artisan community specialised in ahndcraft wood and pottery.

You can admire the great masters of italian painting, such as Piero della Francesca, Beato Angelico, Giotto, Cimabue, il Perugino and, in the cathedral of Orvieto, you will discover the San Brizio Chapel, by Luca Signorelli, who ispired Michelangelo for the Sistine Chapel.
